A licence check starts with the exact website address and the entity offering the account. A familiar brand name or a regulator badge is not enough. The record you find needs to match the domain, contracting business, relevant activity and jurisdiction you are actually considering.
The Gambling Commission's public register is a useful example of an official checking service. Our Casumo review identifies a checked Recro Limited record for Great Britain. The Stake and Rollbit profiles distinguish operator-published licensing statements from an independent regulator confirmation.
Start from the address bar
Write down the full hostname after any redirect. A regional subdomain or a different country domain can lead to a different legal entity, product or set of terms. A review of one address does not automatically cover every site carrying the same logo.
Do not treat a paid search advert, a social-media link or a copied badge as authoritative identification. Navigate to the regulator independently when possible, then search its official service. This avoids letting the casino's own link be the only evidence of the regulator record.
If the address changes during registration or payment, identify which address hosts the account and which terms govern it. A payment-provider page may be a legitimate separate service, but its presence does not replace the operator's licensing information.
Match the operating entity
Look for the contracting or gaming entity in the applicable terms, not merely the broader corporate brand. A group can own several businesses operating under different licences. A payment agent can also be named without being the entity that holds the gaming permission.
Record the legal name and licence or account number exactly as published. Search those identifiers in the regulator's service. If the name is similar but not identical, resolve the discrepancy rather than assuming a spelling difference is harmless.
An operator's statement can be useful evidence of what it claims. A regulator record adds a separate source. Keep those levels distinct: says it holds a licence is different from record checked and matched. A publication should use the second description only after doing the second task.
Check activity and status
A licence can cover a particular type of activity. Casino, sportsbook, software supply and other services need not all fall under one permission. Read the activity listed in the regulator record rather than stopping when a business name appears.
Our Rollbit profile notes that the operator's own footer distinguishes crypto trading from its gaming licence. That makes the scope question concrete: seeing a gaming permission on a platform does not establish that every displayed service is covered by it.
Also look at current status and dates. A past permission, a pending application and an active permission are different states. Record the date of your check and the record's own status. A screenshot copied into an old review is not a substitute for checking the live record again.
The market question is separate
A licence issued in one jurisdiction does not automatically establish that an operator can lawfully accept a visitor everywhere else. Local permissions, restricted territories and the visitor's circumstances can matter. An international article should not make a worldwide legality claim from one footer statement.
Read the operator's prohibited-country list and provider restrictions. Some game restrictions can be narrower than the platform's general availability. The fact that a home page loads does not settle whether registration, deposits or a particular game are permitted.
Do not use a VPN, a false address or another person's details to evade restrictions. A technical route into a page does not create an entitlement to use the service. If the regional permission cannot be established, treat that as an unresolved eligibility question.
A simple verification worksheet
Keep the factual record short enough to recheck. The useful fields are the exact domain, gaming entity, stated licence identifier, official register URL, activity, status, applicable market and check date. Add any mismatch or missing field rather than silently resolving it in the operator's favour.
| Field | Evidence to seek | What remains uncertain if absent |
|---|---|---|
| Exact domain | Account site and terms | Whether the record covers this website |
| Gaming entity | Contracting operator | Who is providing the gambling service |
| Licence identifier | Operator and register | Whether the claim can be matched |
| Activity | Register activity listing | Which service is authorised |
| Current status | Regulator record | Whether the permission is current |
| Regional scope | Local rules and operator restrictions | Whether the account can serve you |
This record can support a comparison, but it does not establish payment reliability, document handling or the quality of support. Those require their own evidence. A licensing check is one layer of due diligence, not an overall safety score.
Read enforcement information in context
Some official services publish regulatory actions alongside licence records. If an action is relevant, read the official account of what occurred, the entity involved and the date. Do not infer that every brand in the same corporate group was subject to the same finding.
Equally, the absence of a visible action in one search is not proof that a business has a spotless history or that no complaint exists. Search coverage and regulator publication policies have limits. State what was checked instead of converting a negative search into an absolute reassurance.
An action can be informative without supporting a prediction about your particular account. Preserve the source and explain its scope. Sensational summaries often remove the details needed to understand which permission, activity or period was involved.
What if a badge cannot be matched?
Try the exact entity and identifier in the official service. Check whether the regulator provides a different register for the relevant activity or a documented validation method. If the claim still cannot be matched, describe it as unverified rather than declaring it false without sufficient evidence.
Ask the operator for the official record or clarification of the entity and domain. A response supplying another badge image does not answer the question. A meaningful response identifies the record and explains why it applies to the service you are examining.
For a site with only a holding page, follow our preview checklist. A future licensing intention is not the same thing as an active verified permission.
Keep verification and endorsement apart
Finding a matched active record establishes a specific fact about permission. It does not guarantee that every withdrawal will arrive quickly, that a promotion is worthwhile, or that gambling is suitable for you. Those claims would require different evidence and still carry limitations.
Use the comparison page to place the licence statement beside the payment, bonus and control documentation. Clear scope makes the research more useful than a badge presented as a universal assurance.
