10× what? Find the base behind a wagering requirement

Work out whether a multiplier applies to a bonus, a combined balance or spin winnings before comparing two offers.

A wagering multiplier is incomplete until you know the amount it multiplies. Ten times a 50-unit bonus produces a different obligation from ten times a combined 100-unit deposit and 50-unit bonus. The word base is a useful way to identify the balance used in that calculation.

The base can be bonus funds, a combination specified by the applicable terms, or winnings from a spin promotion. These are explanatory categories, not a statement that every arrangement is permitted in every jurisdiction. Regional rules matter: Great Britain's current regime caps applicable bonus wagering at ten times, and the treatment of deposited cash has separate protections.

Write the condition as an equation

Translate the wording into two parts before comparing offers: the base and the multiplier. For a bonus-only condition, required credited turnover equals bonus amount multiplied by the stated number. For a combined-base condition, first add the relevant amounts, then multiply.

Illustrative wordingBaseCredited turnover at 10×
Ten times a 50-unit bonus50500
Ten times deposit plus bonus, with 100 deposited and 50 awarded1501,500
Ten times 12 units won from promotional spins12120

The second example is a mathematical illustration of wording sometimes encountered in international documentation, not a recommendation or a description of a permitted British offer. The same multiplier can describe three very different amounts. None of them predicts what a player will win or lose while wagering.

A match percentage is a different number

A 50% deposit match and a 10× wagering requirement answer different questions. The match calculates the initial promotional award; the wagering multiplier calculates a later obligation. Combining the numbers without identifying their purpose makes an offer difficult to evaluate.

For example, a hypothetical 100-unit deposit with a 50% match yields a 50-unit bonus before any maximum cap is considered. If the bonus-only wagering multiplier is ten, credited turnover is 500 units. If the maximum bonus is 40, the award would instead be 40 and the corresponding turnover would be 400.

That sequence matters. First identify the qualifying deposit and match cap, then establish the awarded bonus, then apply the wagering rule. An offer headline showing only the maximum award does not necessarily show the award generated by the deposit amount you have in mind.

Promotional spins may use winnings as the base

The stated number of spins is not necessarily the wagering base. A promotion might apply conditions to the winnings generated by those spins. If the spins generate eight units rather than 20, the base changes accordingly under that kind of condition.

Read the spin value, eligible game, maximum convertible amount, expiry and treatment of winnings together. A phrase such as wager-free can also have a specific scope; check whether it describes the spins themselves or the resulting cash credit. Do not infer unrestricted cash from the word free alone.

Our two-deadline guide explains why activation and any later wagering period should be recorded separately. A correct calculation is only one part of the offer's conditions.

Credited turnover is not always actual betting turnover

Once the base and multiplier are known, check the game's contribution rate. A requirement of 500 credited units at full contribution corresponds to 500 units of qualifying stakes. At 50% contribution it corresponds to 1,000 units of qualifying stakes, assuming the rate stays constant and all other terms are met.

An excluded game contributes zero, so the same division cannot produce a finite amount of progress. Additional play on an excluded game does not clear the requirement. Our contribution-rate guide walks through that distinction and mixed-game examples.

This is one reason not to describe a multiplier as easy without examining the rest of the offer. Contribution, maximum stake, eligibility, expiry and cancellation can all affect what the displayed progress means. The arithmetic does not measure affordability or the probability of finishing.

Check the account's balance labels

A total account balance may combine different pots. Ask which amount remains cash, which is promotional and which winnings are linked to an active bonus. The base used for calculating an obligation is not necessarily the same as the current total displayed in the lobby.

Imagine a 50-unit bonus with a fixed 500-unit credited-turnover requirement. If the playable balance later rises or falls, the original requirement may not automatically rise or fall with it. The specific terms determine how progress, forfeiture and remaining funds are treated.

Do not use a changed balance to recalculate the original requirement unless the terms explicitly describe that mechanism. Keep the accepted offer's original conditions alongside the account's progress display. If the numbers disagree, ask support which rule is being applied before continuing with the promotion.

Great Britain's rules need their own frame

The Gambling Commission's final rules set a maximum of ten times for applicable bonus wagering from 19 January 2026. Its balance guidance also distinguishes deposited cash from promotional balances. Those protections belong to the British licensed regime; they should not be used as a worldwide statement about every casino's terms.

Equally, international wording should not be imported into a British review as though the jurisdiction does not matter. An operator can have different entities, offers and terms under the same brand name. A helpful article names the region whenever it describes an actual promotion.

Our Casumo review illustrates why general guidance and offer-specific clauses need to be read together. A public page can contain material from different promotions or different update periods, so a visible number still requires context.

Use the calculator as a reading aid

The turnover calculator lets you enter the deposit, awarded bonus, multiplier and contribution. Select the base that matches the wording you are examining. It shows the formula as well as the result so you can identify a wrong assumption.

It does not check whether a term is lawful, whether an account qualifies, or whether a bonus is a good decision. It does not model changing balances, game outcomes, mixed contribution histories or the chance that funds run out before progress is complete. Those are material limits, not minor details.

A complete offer comparison starts with the base

Compare the actual awarded amount, base, multiplier and contribution before comparing the headline maximum. Then check the remaining restrictions. If a crucial word such as bonus, deposit or winnings is missing, leave the obligation unresolved and seek clarification.

Declining an offer is always a valid conclusion. A larger displayed promotional balance can come with a larger obligation, and a smaller multiplier cannot remove the risk of losing money while playing.
